Why our first game
starts with four pieces.

A good race needs a clear finish line. For our first game, that finish line is the last puzzle piece snapping into place.
We’re developing a two-player puzzle-racing concept with a deliberately small starting point: equivalent four-piece puzzles, one shared countdown, and two players competing in person. Before adding dozens of levels, we want to find out whether the basic interaction makes people want to play again.
Four pieces make the first question easier to answer
Starting with a complex puzzle would mix several problems together. Are the pieces difficult to recognize? Are the controls awkward? Is the starting layout unfair? Is the race itself fun?
A simple four-piece shape reduces that ambiguity. A player should be able to identify the target, grab a piece, and understand the snapping behavior almost immediately. If that feels confusing, adding more content won’t fix the underlying interaction.
The prototype loop
- Each player takes a separate workspace.
- A shared countdown starts both puzzles together.
- Players drag the pieces toward their correct positions.
- The game validates every placement before recording completion.
- A winner reveal shows the result and invites a rematch.
The first implementation target is Quick Race. Modes such as tournaments and best-of-five can wait until the individual round holds up under repeated play.
Fairness comes before a dramatic finish
Both players need equivalent puzzle difficulty and balanced piece layouts. A single timing source must determine both completion times. Otherwise, a close result could reflect interface differences rather than a better solve.
We also need to test how the intended device posture affects visibility and touch access. A fold is useful only if both players can comfortably see and control their own workspace.
What we will learn from playtests
Our early questions are practical: do players understand the goal without coaching, do they miss pieces because of touch targets, can they tell why a piece did not snap, and do they ask for another round?
After that, we can introduce five- and six-piece challenges, then test rotation, flipping, and intricate shapes. Complexity should grow because the player is ready, not because a piece counter can increase forever.
Where the project stands
This entry records the starting design brief. It does not claim a completed prototype or announce device compatibility. The next game milestone is a playable proof of concept using verified capabilities.
